An agent can draft the email, but it cannot make the customer answer it. With Formstep connected over MCP, the agent sends one person a prefilled form and reads their answers when they are done.
Send a Formstep request with the "Supplier onboarding" form to Ada Lovelace (ada@acme.example). Fill in the company name "Analytical Engines Ltd" and lock it. Use supplier-2041 as the external ID.
The agent reads the form’s field keys, creates the request and replies with the link. Ada finds the company name filled in and locked:
Later, ask Has supplier-2041 been answered? and the agent lists her answers. The same server builds and publishes forms, reminds and cancels requests, and reads share-link submissions: 76 tools in all.
Elicitation asks the person who is chatting with the agent, during the conversation. A Formstep request asks someone else, like a customer or a supplier, who answers on their own device, maybe days later.
Does the agent get told when the customer answers?
No. Ask the agent about the request later, in the same conversation or a new one, and it reads the answers by your External ID. To act on answers without asking, have a workflow receive the signed callback.
Which AI tools can connect?
Any tool that supports remote MCP servers, including Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. Some tools limit custom MCP servers to certain plans.
