formbase is now Formstep. Old formbase.so links still work.

Formstep

n8n community node

The customer step for your n8n workflow

Your workflow reaches a point only the customer can answer. The Formstep node sends them a request with what you already know filled in, and the workflow carries on with their answers, keyed by field key.

How it works

  1. A Create request node picks a published form and the recipient, prefills what you already know, and locks what must not change.
  2. Formstep emails the link, or your next node sends it by Slack, SMS or your own email tool.
  3. The recipient checks the form, corrects it, adds the rest and submits.
  4. Wait for the Outcome resumes the same execution with the answers. Or a Formstep Trigger starts another workflow on completed, expired and canceled requests.

A finished n8n execution: a manual trigger, Create request, a Wait node named Wait for the answer, and a Switch named Outcome, all green, with one item leaving the approve output
Create request, Wait, and a Switch on approve, decline or changes.

Why not the Wait node’s own form

It suits colleagues. A customer gets a form with your branding instead of your n8n address, sees what you already know with locked fields they cannot edit, and gets reminders when they go quiet. Expiry ends the wait with an event, not silence. And {{ $json.body.data.answers.iban }} stays iban when you retitle or translate the question.

Needs a self-hosted n8n that Formstep can reach over HTTPS. Install n8n-nodes-formstep from Settings › Community nodes.

Questions

Does it work on n8n Cloud?
Not yet. n8n Cloud installs only community nodes that n8n has verified, and the Formstep node is not verified yet. On n8n Cloud, call the Formstep REST API from an HTTP Request node instead.
What happens if the customer never answers?
The request expires, after 30 days unless you set another date, and the workflow gets a request.expired event instead of the answers. On Pro and Business, Formstep emails reminders before that.
What does it cost?
The node is free and MIT-licensed. Requests work on the free Formstep plan, where you send the link yourself. Letting Formstep email the invitation and reminders needs Pro or Business; Free gets 10 invitation emails to try it.
